For this project, I intend to work on an idea I came up with last year. One of the main areas of concern for college students is food: mainly what are they going to eat and how are they going to get the food. As a college student, I worry about eating proper meals each day but also getting the proper nutrition. As a freshman and sophomore, I didn't worry so much about where I was going to get the food because I lived in the dorms and would just go to the dining halls for my meals. Now, however, I have to make my own meals which means getting my food from the grocery stores.
We all have those days where we do not feel like doing much, much less brave the Syracuse cold just for some groceries. However, if there was a service that would deliver groceries to apartments, students would have a lot easier access to food. Personally, when I go shopping, and if I'm even a little bit hungry, I buy more food than necessary, and more unhealthy foods. But, if there was a service that would delivery only things I had previously checked on a list, the issue of over buying and buying unhealthy foods would decrease significantly.
This service would start with a website where users would create a profile, or create a membership. This way, the foods they order are kept on file, so they can review what they have purchased most recently. This service would also provide nutritional information so students can ensure that the food they are ordering is healthy and meeting their nutritional requirements. Another aspect of this website could be a recipe builder based off of what the students order. Say the student selects pasta, tomatoes, cheese and onion. The recipe builder could suggest a few more items like olive oil, garlic, basil, and chicken, and provide a great recipe for a chicken pasta dish.
There used to be a service in syracuse, i am not sure if they still exist, called one click groceries. You might want to see what information you can find about the company and evolve your idea based on what they had going for them.
ReplyDeleteI would love if someone delivered my groceries to me for two reasons: 1. I don’t have a car in order to conveniently drive myself to the supermarket and 2. I don’t have that much time to just up and go to the grocery store. I think the concept is something that has potential, but like the GAs said it might already be in existence. I think you can certainly fine tune it and tweak it to be better than the competition, but if it is something about which you feel strongly you should certainly pursue it!
ReplyDeleteI think this is a really good idea! Although there are other services that do similar things to this, i feel like this is a more elaborate and convenient way. I like how you can personalize specific items because other services I've used only provide me with minimal options. Also everyone loves having things delivered to them, so i think this would be extremely successful!
ReplyDeleteI was sold from the title. I think this idea can go really far. My question though, would someone be able to order groceries from different stores? Or only from one store? Whoever that delivery person would be would need to crazy if he/she had to go from store to store to pickup groceries.
ReplyDeleteThis would grow very quickly though, because I think every college student, even on the West coast with nice weather, would use this.
This is what I concern with right now, the food! I personally prefer online shopping, but sometimes people messed up with online shopping because it will not get what they want! Especially for the food, I think the expiration date and the labels have to be on your website to reduce their anxiety for shopping on your website. Maybe choose some brands familiar for households is also a good solution.
ReplyDeleteI love your idea! As an international student, many of us don't have a car, and it is very inconvenient. Grocery shopping is a pain especially in this weather. With this service, it does not only save time but also save money from buying random stuffs. My question is, how many working days for the items to be delivered? Are items more expensive than normal grocery stores?
